Why Keyword Stuffing Does Not Work Anymore?

3

When SEO was in its infancy and people were started to find out how beneficial it was, keyword stuffing was a solid SEO strategy. Website owners stressed on having as many keywords based on their niche added to the content as possible. It even worked as well since the algorithms used by search engines for ranking websites weren’t advanced enough. The websites with more keywords stuffed in them usually got ranked higher. However, this isn’t true anymore. Let us find the reason why this is so.

Search Engines Got Smarter

The biggest reason why keyword stuffing isn’t getting the results it did before is because search engines refined their search algorithms. Google, in particular, introduced various updates to the algorithm it uses for ranking websites on its result pages. The aim of these updates was to ensure that the users saw quality websites ranking highly on the SERPs. Because of this, websites with keywords stuffed in them got demoted while websites which offered helpful content got a promotion.

Repetition Decreases Credibility

Keyword stuffing means repetition of a single phrase in the website text just so search engines can index the website multiple times. While it might get the website indexed, it will seriously affect your credibility. Repetition is not a good marketing strategy. So, if the user sees the same words repeated multiple times in a few paragraphs, he would immediately start doubting your communication skills and your ability to help him.

Limits the Chance of Conversions

In addition to decreasing your credibility, keyword stuffing can reduce your conversion rate too. People usually convert when they find the website’s message appealing to them. However, text stuffed with keywords lessens the impact of the message as the focus is merely on getting the keyword in as many times as possible. Thus, you are less likely to get conversions if your website text is too keyword heavy.
